Schönbrunn opening hours at a glance
The palace is open every day of the year, including public holidays. The opening time is always 8:30 am. Only the closing time changes with the season. Last entry is 45 minutes before closing. The park is free and opens at 6:30 am, long before the palace.
The hours below come from the operators' official pages, checked in October 2026. The operator's summer season ends on 2 November 2026. Some winter hours had not been published at that time, and we say so where it applies. Check the official page before a trip around the changeover.

In winter the palace appears to stay open until 5:30 pm on 5 to 8 December, 12 and 13 December, 19 and 20 December, and from 25 December to 6 January. We read this from the structure of the official page, and it is not labelled there, so confirm it before you plan around it.
The Children's Museum is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, with last entry at 4:00 pm. On 29 and 30 October 2026 it opens from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, last entry 2:30 pm.

Last entry is 30 minutes before closing, and 45 minutes for the Maze. Children up to 14 enter the Maze only with an adult. Tickets for these attractions end on 2 November 2026. Hours from 3 November had not been published. Whether they stay open in winter is not confirmed, so check before you go.
The fountains, including the Neptune Fountain and the Roman Ruin, do not run from mid-October to mid-April.

A new pedestrian gate, the Engelstor, opened on 25 August 2026 near the Kennedy bridge. It leads directly to the park, the zoo and the Imperial Carriage Museum.

State Apartments
About 40 minutes, official figure.
Palace Ticket
About 75 minutes, official figure.
Classic Pass
Three to four hours, official figure. It covers the palace and four garden attractions.
Classic Pass Plus
About one day, official figure. It adds the zoo and two glasshouses.
Imperial Lights
60 to 90 minutes, official figure. The light trail in the park runs from 6 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, daily from 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
Our estimate for the whole visit
This is not an official figure. For the palace and a walk through the park, we would plan half a day. If you add the zoo, plan the full day and start early.

Christmas market
From 6 November 2026 to 6 January 2027 in the main courtyard, with free entry. It is open daily from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm until 23 December, until 4:00 pm on 24 December and until 7:00 pm from 25 December. See the Christmas market page.
Imperial Lights
Last entry is 8:30 pm. Tickets use time slots and start from €24 for adults. The festive lighting of the palace and the Gloriette was suspended to save energy as of October 2026.

What are the winter hours?
From 3 November 2026 to 31 March 2027 the palace is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. On some December and holiday dates it appears to stay open until 5:30 pm. Last entry is 45 minutes before closing.
When does the park close?
The park opens at 6:30 am every day. It closes at 7:00 pm in October and at 5:30 pm in November and December. In summer it stays open until 9:00 pm.
Is Schönbrunn open in winter?
Yes. The palace and the free park are open all year. The Gloriette, Maze and the two gardens with their own tickets are published only until 2 November 2026. Their winter hours were not available in October.
How long does a visit take?
The State Apartments take about 40 minutes and the Palace Ticket about 75 minutes. With the garden attractions of the Classic Pass, plan three to four hours.
