Belvedere Palace at a glance
The Belvedere is a baroque palace complex in Vienna. The Upper Belvedere was finished in 1723 as a summer palace for Prince Eugene of Savoy. Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt was the architect. The Lower Belvedere is the second palace, and the Belvedere 21 shows contemporary art.
The main reason to come is Gustav Klimt's The Kiss. The museum calls it the most famous Austrian painting, and it has hung in the Upper Belvedere since 1908. The Belvedere owns 24 Klimt paintings and says this is the largest Klimt collection in the world.

Time slots and how to plan the visit
The Upper and Lower Belvedere ask for a time slot ticket. Book your slot before you go, especially if The Kiss is the reason for your trip.
The combination tickets contain a time slot for the Upper Belvedere. You can visit the other houses on the same day, before or after that slot. The length of your visit is not limited. The Gold Pass needs no time slot.
For a short visit, the Upper Belvedere alone is enough. Add the Lower Belvedere if you want the second palace. Add the Belvedere 21 only after you have checked that it is open.
The three houses of the Belvedere
The Upper Belvedere is the one most visitors come for. It houses the permanent collection with The Kiss. The Lower Belvedere is the second palace of the complex and has its own ticket at €20 for adults.
The Belvedere 21 is a separate building for contemporary art. It is the cheapest ticket at €12. If you only have time for one house, choose the Upper Belvedere.
The 2-in-1 ticket for the Upper and Lower Belvedere costs €32 and saves €11 compared with buying the two tickets separately.

The Upper Belvedere had longer hours in summer 2026, but those have ended. The Belvedere 21 is the unclear case. Pages on the Belvedere website give conflicting information, saying it is closed until 4 November or until 9 July because of an exhibition changeover. We could not resolve this. Check the status on the Belvedere website before you plan a visit around it.
