Vienna beyond Schönbrunn
Most of the sights below lie in or near the historic centre, so you can combine several on foot or with a short U-Bahn ride. Schönbrunn is in the 13th district and takes about 10 to 20 minutes by U4 from the centre.
Public transport is simple to budget for. Since 1 January 2026 Vienna sells no 48 or 72-hour tickets. A single ride costs €3.20 (€3.00 digital) and a 24-hour ticket €10.20 (€9.70 digital). The Vienna City Card lowers several prices, for example the Schönbrunn Classic Pass costs €42 with it instead of €49.

Imperial Vienna
The Habsburg story continues in the city. These sights pair best with a Schönbrunn visit.

Tower hours differ between sources, so check before you go.

Things to do in Vienna: frequently asked questions
What should I see in Vienna besides Schönbrunn?
The Hofburg and the Belvedere are the natural second palaces. In the old town, St. Stephen's Cathedral and the State Opera are within walking distance of each other. The Prater and the Naschmarkt add a more local side.
Is the cathedral free?
Entry to the cathedral is free. Towers and some areas charge admission, for example the South Tower at €8.
Which Vienna museums have time slots?
The Belvedere, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Imperial Treasury work with time slots. The Treasury has required one since 1 April 2026.
Is Vienna's coffee house culture a World Heritage Site?
No. It is listed in Austria's national inventory of intangible cultural heritage, which is not the UNESCO Representative List.
Are there 48 or 72-hour public transport tickets?
No. Since 1 January 2026 Vienna's public transport sells only the 24-hour and 7-day passes beyond single rides. The 7-day ticket costs €28.90 (€25.20 digital).
Can I visit Vienna and Schönbrunn in one day?
Yes, if you pick one or two city sights. The Palace Ticket takes about 75 minutes, so one city sight in the morning and Schönbrunn in the afternoon is realistic.
